Vanna Roo’s Farewell

Our Vanna came to live with us as a small kitten. At the time, we had one resident cat, Rocky. Rocky was a very large male and was the king. We were approaching their meeting cautiously when Rocky took their introduction into his own paws. It was mutual love at first sight. She was a very friendly, little kitten who brought so much life, laughter and love to our house which she continued to give her entire life.

Vanna was our little angel, not to say she didn't also have a mischievous side. I think Vanna, if she had a headstone, would want it to say, "She Loved Ham." Unbeknownst to us, Vanna came out to join a family gathering. A long buffet table with a tablecloth that went down to the floor was the perfect place for her to take cover. On the table was a serving platter of sliced ham. Quietly, a white paw and then a long, stretched out front leg appeared from under the tablecloth. She quickly snagged a slice of ham as we watched, in dismay, as it disappeared under the table. We still enjoy a laugh about this with a smile.

Vanna loved to play and to give head butts and kisses. She had her favorite toys and games. She would carry around her toys and you could find them anywhere and everywhere around the house. She knew where every toy was and would bring them to you to play.

She was the leader and disciplinarian of her fellow feline family members. We all shared in our grief of losing her, humans and animals alike. What do I miss most about her? Everything.

At just ten years old, sadly, she was diagnosed with an aggressive, inoperative oral cancer. She was such an important part of our family and as we faced her reality, we wanted a peaceful end for her. We were feeling more and more anxiety thinking about the inevitable drive to the Vet hospital. We cannot recommend highly enough an in-house visit from the veterinarian to euthanize. The ability to have family (including your other pets) given the opportunity to be with your beloved pet in the privacy of your home is immeasurably better than the alternative. She will always be missed and our hearts are forever broken.
